Noah and the Flood
As I was picking my son up from school, he stated to cry and he explained to me why. He told me that he had forgotten to study for his exam and he failed the test. He started to explain that he was planning to study over the past weekend, but due to many social events, he put it aside. When he remembered, it was too late and he had to guess at all the answers. Yes! He did receive an “F” on his exam, he was angry, and he wishes he had another chance to take the test.
I prayed and asked Jesus for help so we could use this opportunity for us to grow closer to God.
I started to tell him the story about Noah and the ark.
Genesis 6-8
Noah was a righteous man who walked faithfully with God but other earthy people were corrupt and God was going to destroy them. God taught Noah how to make an ark and what to bring into the ark. Noah did everything just as God commanded him. God also told Noah when the rain will fall and how long it will last. Noah did all that the LORD commanded and his family entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood. Rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights and as the waters increased. Every living thing that had the breath of life in its nostrils died except what was in the ark.
God remembered Noah and God completely dry the earth and told Noah to come out of the ark with his families and all living creature that was with him. God bless Noah and his family to multiply and increase in number.
I asked my son, “What if Noah had waited until the very last day to build the ark? What if: Noah did not follow God’s direction, he was careless about covering the hole, he did not follow the measurements, he brought only male animals or he just did not build the ark at all?” I went on with “the what ifs” and then we talked about why we needed to take responsibility in knowing what are the more important things to do.After we have finished the more important things, then we have free time - then we can play.
Genesis 2:2-3
By the seventh day, God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
Well! Jesus is so wonderful. He helped my son understand that he is a very special person and God made him to do a good job in the gifts that he has received from God. My son was not going to let God down and he told me that it is very important for him to do well in school and he will take this new opportunity to be more responsible, to learn and take direction in school, so he can grow up and be ready when Jesus calls him.
My son learned that he is a very special boy and God made him and a put teacher in his life to teach him. He now knows that it is very importation for him to take responsibility and always be ready to take the exam, not only to get “A” but to learn and understand the meanings.
I thank God for his son, Jesus and the Bible. Whenever I run into trouble, I think about the Bible and use what is in the Bible to help my son learn so he too can grow.
1 Samuel 21-24, 28
Hannah said to her husband, "After the boy is weaned, I will take him and present him before the LORD, and he will live there always." "Do what seems best to you," her husband Elkanah told her. "Stay here until you have weaned him; only may the LORD make good his word." So the woman stayed at home and nursed her son until she had weaned him.
So now, I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD." And he worshiped the LORD there.
Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
